Bradford Czerwonky

Brad Czerwonky is a USPTO-registered patent attorney in the Intellectual Property and Corporate practices of general practice law firm Smith, Gambrell & Russell. Before law school, he spent nearly 16 years in new product development as a mechanical engineer and project manager – experience that still shapes how he thinks about design, risk, and getting products into the real world. He has also loved woodworking since receiving his first pocket knife (and his first stitches…).

From building a violin, to fabricating wooden refrigerator molds, to designing and making toy planes and custom signs, he enjoys trying new projects. His experience spans a wide range of technologies, including material handling systems, woodworking tools, fastener technologies, vehicle engines, apparel, furniture, fenestration, additive manufacturing, consumer products, and industrial equipment. Brad works with clients to protect their innovations through the successful capture and enforcement of patent, trademark, and other IP rights. He has drafted well over 200 patent applications, handling hundreds more applications and thousands of filings, and is familiar with the ins and outs of both domestic and foreign IP rights.

Brad also helps clients navigate the less glamorous, but critical side of innovation: contracts. Thoughtfully negotiated agreements are essential tools for protecting ideas, managing risk, and supporting business goals, whether or not they involve IP.

Having lived and traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad, Brad can communicate in plain English (no unnecessary “whereas” clauses), fluent Japanese, and very rusty German.
